One of the joys of skiing and riding is that while you are making turns on a slope or in a glade, all your other thoughts just melt away. Any worries, fears or stresses are pushed aside as it is just you, the slope, your skis/board and the snow. And when there is 14" of new snow under you... all the better!
On Martin Luther King weekend at Saddleback, Saturday featured a tremendous snowstorm with intense winds shutting down all the lifts by mid-morning. In its wake 14" of dense base building snow was deposited on the slopes and greeted a tremendous crowd of skiers on Sunday.
Was it crowded and the lift lines long for Saddleback standards? Yes. But the vibe was good, the new high speed quad whisked skiers up the mountain and we could all escape and let our everyday stress just melt away... even for just a moment!
Here is a great video edit by the sons of Maine Ski Family. Come up and ski Saddleback!
