Page last updated December 24th - 11:15am - A catastrophic rainstorm blasted through Maine on December 17-18 causing significant damage to entire Western Maine Region and as of December 19th is causing significant flooding in the major rivers downstream. Our hearts go out to everyone that is impacted. Thanks to all the first responders helping people and hats off to the road and electric crews putting things back together.
Maine ski resorts are assessing the damage to their infrastructure are putting plans in place to reopen as safely and as quickly as possible. Post-storm mountains were able to make snow and we expect very good December ski conditions at Maine ski areas for the holiday week.
We will keep this post updated as Maine ski areas develop their reopening plans. Please use this page for reference and avoid calling mountains for reopening information. Let's let them focus on the big task of reopening and we can leverage the web and social media to obtain information about mountain ski operations start back up.

Sunday River received over 7" of rain which decimated many of the roads and bridges in the area along with significantly impacting the resorts infrastructure. Crews are completing the installation of a temporary bridge at the Grand Summit, repairing road washouts, replacing culverts, and removing debris from base areas. Sunday River reopened on December 23rd with access limited to season passholders, ticket pack holders, Ikon passholders, and guests who have already purchased lift tickets or lodging. Saddleback had a major road washout near the base lodge, but it appears the lodge itself and resort infrastructure came through OK. As of Wednesday, snowmaking resumed. Saddleback reopened for skiing and riding on December 23rd. Here is our

The road infrastructure in the Carrabassett Valley region had significant damage but Sugarloaf is reporting their mountain infrastructure fared OK all things considered. Sugarloaf has restarted snowmaking and reopened for skiing and riding on December 21st. Check out their

Mt. Abram reports their infrastructure had no significant damage and they reopened on December 23rd. Keep an eye on their

Black Mountain made it through the storm OK and are still targeting their December 26th opening day. They resumed snowmaking December 19th. Keep an eye on their

Pleasant Mountain's infrastructure made it through the storm OK. They have restarted snowmaking and as of Friday, December 22nd, they have reopened for skiing and riding. Go to their

Lost Valley is making snow and as of Friday, December 22nd, they are open for skiing and riding. Keep an eye on their

Friends of the Mountain, the non-profit group that is operating the ski area at Big Moose Mountain, is unfortunately reporting significant damage to the roads and snowmaking infrastructure. They are saying they are now 100% dependent on natural snow to operate. Keep an eye on their

Big Rock made it through the storm OK and is targeting an opening date of December 26th. Keep an eye on their

Titcomb Mountain had to clean up a lot of downed trees and deal with fallen power lines. The clean up is nearing completion and they are targeting reopening on December 27th. Stay tuned to their
