Here is the 2026 edition of the Family Skiing in Maine Ski Swap
Guide. Swaps are a great way to save money on winter gear.
Maine Ski Swap FAQ
When is ski swap season in Maine?
Maine ski swaps typically run from mid-October through early
December, with the first half of November being the busiest.
Where can I find a ski swap in Maine?
Used ski and snowboard gear is available at community ski swaps
hosted by outing clubs, parks and recreation departments, and local
ski areas across Maine, including places such as Bangor, Bethel,
Brunswick, and Portland. See the full list of dates and locations
below.
How do ski swaps work — buying and selling?
Most Maine ski swaps let sellers drop off gear ahead of time with a
tag listing the price; the organizing club or nonprofit typically
keeps a small percentage of each sale. Buyers pay at checkout, often
cash or card. Exact drop-off windows, fees, and pickup times for
unsold items vary by swap, so check each organizer's website before
you go.
What should I look for when buying used ski equipment?
Check bindings for wear and all bindings should be adjusted by a
certified technician for the skier's weight, height, and ability;
inspect ski or board edges and bases for major damage; make sure
boots fit snugly without being painful. Helmets should generally be
replaced rather than bought used if their impact history is
unknown. You can also read this Portland Press Herald article
for some advice on buying used gear.
Are Maine ski swaps good for kids' gear?
Yes — ski swaps are one of the best ways to outfit growing kids
affordably, since children's skis, boots, and boards are often used
only one season before they're outgrown. Arriving early tends to
matter most for junior sizes, since they sell quickly.
Is my ski swap missing from this list?
This guide is updated throughout the season as new dates are
announced. If you know of a Maine ski swap that isn't listed, email
bloggeradmin@maineskifamily.com
or leave a comment below with the details.
