Scenes like this are made possible by the hard working staff at Maine ski areas |
Ski areas are looking for customer service reps, lift operators & mechanics, snowmakers, groomer operators, housekeepers, custodians, ski patrol, event coordinators, snow reporters, child care providers, cooks, bartenders and wait staff, ski school instructors, rental shop technicians and attendants, shuttle bus drivers and many more.
It takes a lot of staff to run a ski area! Most of these jobs are seasonal, and each fall is the prime-time for the hiring season as the ski areas prep for their winter season.
Finding affordable housing is a challenge for staff. Some of the larger mountains are starting to take action with Sugarloaf buying the Herbert Hotel in Kingfield for employee housing; Saddleback building on-mountain workforce housing, and Sunday River converting a on-mountain dorm once used for ski teams into employee housing. Affordable housing is wider than just a large ski area issue, and creative solutions are needed to provide places to stay for the seasonal workforce across Maine.
As a skiing family, we say a big THANK YOU to the mountain staff and crews that make our ski day enjoyable. Without the staff, ski areas simply would not be able to operate.
