The Rangeley Birding Festival is coming to the Rangeley area and our home mountain, Saddleback Maine, June 5-8. This event offers a unique chance to see migrating and breeding warblers, along with a chance to see the elusive high elevation Bicknell's Thrush.
While the event offers tours throughout the Rangeley region, some specific festival events happening at Saddleback include:
- A special welcome reception at the Saddleback pub on Thursday evening
- Saddleback mountain guided tours each morning with chairlift access to the high-elevation alpine environment
- Saturday Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife banding demonstration station at the Saddleback base lodge
- Saturday buffet dinner and keynote speaker at the Saddleback base lodge
- Chairlift ride and Sunday brunch at the mid-mountain Nest restaurant at 3,620 feet
- The Sunday brunch is open to non-festival participants as well. Reservations required. Check out the Brunch Event Page FMI.
Other guided birding tours feature a Kennebago river paddle, Quill Hill, the Rangeley Lakes Trail Center, Perham Stream birding trail and the Boy Scout road. See the full schedule at this URL.
Tickets are all-access for all the tours and festival activities except for The Nest brunch, which is an add-on. The Nest restaurant is a unique triangle shaped building, featuring a live planting roof and bird safe windows. In fact, Saddleback was recognized by the Maine Audubon with a Bird Safe Award for this mid-mountain restaurant project.
We find birding a great way to get out and explore the outdoors in all seasons and the month of June is a especially active time for birds in the Rangeley region. We are pleased to see Saddleback taking such an active role in this years festival and we are looking forward to attending!
